JIAYU S3 MT6752 H560 Oreo Installation Steps

  • Backup everything first – IMPORTANT!!!
    • Backup Apps, Settings, Contacts, Calendar, e.g. Settings => System => Backup => Backup Now
    • If older version of Android backup SMS and Call History to Google Drive by installing Synchtech “SMS Backup & Restore” app from Google Play.
    • Backup Photos (not synchronised to Google Drive)
      • Boot into Recovery (TWRP) to get full access to phone
      • Connect a usb phone cable to your PC
      • Using Windows Explorer or similar to copy Internal Storage/DCIM to PC Desktop\DCIM
    • Nougat users – backup Nougat ROM using older TWRP v3.1.1
      • Note following: Using XDA recommended TWRP 3.2.1-0 I found that Backup rebooted part way through! However using the above older version worked OK. Obviously if you find 3.2.1.1 Backup works for you then skip the steps below installing the older version and just install the new version.
      • Copy TWRP 3.1.1 zip from PC to phone Micro SD Card/Download/TWRP folder
      • Use current TWRP to Install Micro SD Card\Download/TWRP/TWRP 3.1.1 zip
      • Reboot into Recovery and Backup Nougat ROM (Boot+ System + Data) to Micro SD card
  • Flash OREO ROM and Restore Data
    • Download TWRP 3.2.1-0 image file from XDA JiauyS3 downloads page to your PC and copy to Micro SD Card/Download/TWRP/twrp_20180417.img
    • Download madOS_8.1.0_s3_h560_20180422.zip from XDA JiauyS3 downloads page to your PC and copy to Micro SD Card/Downloads/OREO/madOS_8.1.0_s3_h560_20180422.zip
    • Download open_gapps-arm64-8.1-nano-20171224-UNOFFICIAL.zip from XDA JiauyS3 downloads page to your PC and copy to Micro SD Card/Downloads/OREO/open_gapps-arm64-8.1-nano-20171224-UNOFFICIAL.zip
    • From TWRP select Install -> Image and install twrp_20180417.img to Recovery partition
    • Boot Recovery TWRP 3.2.1-0
      • Wipe => Advanced => tick each of these:
        • Dalvik cache
        • Cache
        • System
        • Data
      • Install Oreo (madOS 8.1) followed by Google Apps:
        • madOS_8.1.0_s3_h560_20180422.zip
        • open_gapps-arm64-8.1-nano-20171224-UNOFFICIAL.zip
    • Boot System and follow install wizard instructions restoring saved data from Google Drive. First boot takes longest and may shut down and need to be restarted several times.
    • If SMS messages backed up with Synchtech “SMS Backup & Restore”.  install Synchtech “SMS Backup & Restore” from Google Play. Open and restore SMS and Call History from Google Drive. As instructed switch back to standard SMS app.
    • Uninstall  “SMS Backup & Restore” app. OREO now backs up SMS and Call History so this app will no longer be required.
    • Restore photos by copying backed up Desktop\DCIM contents to Internal Storage/DCIM
  • Root phone
    • Boot into Recovery
    • Make a backup (Boot+ System + Data) to Micro SD Card using TWRP before proceeding!
    • Download SuperSU zip file from Chainfire  If this fails search XDA Developers site for another. Note: copying zip from SuperSU official did not work at the time??
    • Copy SuperSU zip file from your PC to Micro SD Card/Download/OREO/ folder
    • Install SuperSU zip using TWRP to Root phone. Once complete a message pops up warning you that it will a little longer to boot system to finish the install process.
    • Boot system.
    • The SuperSU root manager app should be installed. If not download from Google Play
    • SuperSU will now ask you to grant permission to apps that need root access.
    • Alternative root access program use Magisk
